The Viola had a sensational start to the season, but are now without a win in five, including four consecutive 1-1 draws against Cagliari, Torino, Roma and Frosinone.

“We tried to analyse the positive situations seen in recent games, but also the negative ones that prevented us from achieving important victories,” said the Coach in his Press conferences.

“Due to these errors, we aren’t in the position that we deserve. It’s important to control the result better towards the end of the match, but being one of the youngest teams in Europe, we can run into certain issues of naivete.

“It is also important that we improve in front of goal and take more of our chances, so that the odd defensive slip-up is not as costly.

“Sometimes the result can change the way you perceive a performance and I think 70 per cent of what we’ve done has been positive. We mustn’t let the other 30 per cent drain our confidence or enthusiasm.”

Marko Pjaca and German Pezzella returned from international duty with injuries and are unavailable for the trip to Bologna, a stadium that Pioli knows well.

“I had two very positive years here, especially the first season, while the second concluded with an undeserved dismissal. It’s true that on paper Fiorentina are stronger than this Bologna, but in Serie A this season especially you must fight to the end for every point.

“Bologna are a very physical side, organised and dangerous on set plays. We don’t have a big centre-forward who can hold up the ball, the way Bologna have Federico Santander, so our moves have to come from midfield passing.”

Fiorentina squad for Bologna: Brancolini, Dragowski, Lafont; Biraghi, Ceccherini, Diks, Vitor Hugo, Hancko, Laurini, Milenkovic; Benassi, Dabo, Eysseric, Edimilson, Norgaard, Gerson, Veretout; Chiesa, Mirallas, Simeone, Sottil, Thereau, Vlahovic
