“Diego Perotti and Javier Pastore are both available, but they cannot play from the start,” confirmed the Coach in his Press conference.

Edin Dzeko, Stephan El Shaarawy, Lorenzo Pellegrini and Daniele De Rossi are out of action and could be on the sidelines for a while.

“There is a UEFA study that shows there are statistically more injuries during this period of the season, when there are teams playing in multiple tournaments. Unfortunately, we had all these injuries at the same time.

“Don’t think that because they earn a lot more money now, players can have 100 games per year. The tempo of the sport has increased and the quality level is far higher, so you need to step up the intensity of training and that can lead to injuries.

“We’ve got to bring out something more from within ourselves. The defeat to Real Madrid showed we are still lacking something, including that bit of luck you need to put the ball in the back of the net.

“I was criticised for not using Patrik Schick enough, then criticised for using him. What do people want? We need everyone and at this moment, I am not in a position to make many choices. Patrik has to give more and above all believe in his own immense potential.

“The psychological aspect becomes decisive at this level and that is where he needs to improve. We need strong men and therefore must help these men to feel stronger. I have to make them feel strong in their own minds.

“The only area where I can make some choices is in defence. I don’t know if Federico Fazio will start, I could use three or four at the back. I’m working on both systems and we’ll see what is most opportune.

“Last season there were different players, different teams. We didn’t deserve to lose against Inter, so I can only hope we replicate their good fortune and bring home a victory even when playing badly.

“We owe the Roma fans something, but at the same time we still need their support.”
