Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has been in phone contact with Gonzalo Higuain, it’s reported, as Alvaro Morata is open to a Milan swap.

According to Sport Mediaset, Sarri is actively working behind the scenes to organise a reunion with his former Napoli striker.

As well as encouraging the two clubs to step up negotiations for a short-term exchange of loans, the Coach also rang Pipita last month to discuss his situation.

It’s claimed the conversation took place after Higuain was sent off in the defeat to his old club Juventus, resulting in a two-match ban.

Higuain has not scored in Serie A for six weeks and is increasingly unlikely to see Milan pay the €36m option to buy, having already shelled out €18m for the one-season loan.

Juventus would have to give the all-clear too, but Milan are hoping to send Higuain to Stamford Bridge in January for the final six months of the loan and hand over the option to buy.

In exchange, they would take Morata on a six-month loan with option to buy.
