The transfer merry-go-round is in full swing today, with Higuain in London for his medical and Genoa striker Piatek set to sign this evening for €35m plus bonuses.

“I had a great rapport with Pipa (Higuain’s nickname). He is a champion and taught me so much. I thank him for all the great advice he gave to me,” Cutrone told Sky Sport Italia.

“Piatek is a very strong striker and he’s proved that in recent months. I don’t know if his move is official yet or not, but he can give us a big hand. My teammates and I will certainly help him settle in to the squad.”

With Higuain leaving, it remains to be seen whether Piatek will take the Number 9 or Cutrone.

“It would be an honour to wear the Number 9 jersey. Right now, I am focused on doing well and always being ready when called upon, then we’ll see.

“I always try to ensure I am in good shape and ready to deliver, whether it is as a substitute or from the start. I try to convince the Coach to convince me that I deserve to start.”

Gennaro Gattuso has nicknamed Cutrone ‘poison’ because of his passion on the field, fighting for every ball.

“I never lack determination. That is my main characteristics and I will always try to keep it. The objective I set for myself is to improve always in training, every day, thanks also to help from my teammates.

“As for Milan, our objective is Champions League qualification. It’s not about how good one player is, but the strength of the whole team. We believe and will take it one game at a time.”
