“Fabio achieves the record, the team plays at a high level, the three points. We can consider ourselves satisfied. It was not an easy match, because we had to work hard for it against a physical side, but showed great patience, focus and self-belief.

“I thought Quagliarella could sense this record was in the air. It’s an extraordinary achievement that so few champions get to enjoy. I think it left him quite emotional. Now that he has this record, why not aim for the Capocannoniere title?

“We’ve got to leave him as he is, enjoying himself and not feeling the pressure.”
