“On days like this, you just want to say that the lads worked so hard, sacrificed themselves for the team and were united throughout,” Pioli told Rai Sport.

“I am very satisfied and happy for the players. It was almost a perfect evening. They deserve this success and deserve to be in the Coppa Italia semi-finals.

“We prepared very well for this match and are truly happy. It’s an important step forward, although now our focus must return to Serie A for this weekend and Udinese.”

Fiorentina will face either Atalanta or Juventus in the semi-final, which will be played over two legs.
