Atalanta President Antonio Percassi wants Coach Gian Piero Gasperini to stay “for life. With him, we are convinced we can beat anyone.”

The Orobici are in the Coppa Italia semi-finals after beating Juventus 3-0, becoming the first Italian club to defeat the Bianconeri this season.

“Nobody can ask me to release Gasperini, because I want him here for life,” Percassi told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“This is the best Atalanta side of all time, breaking records in 110 years of history. The mentality has changed with him, as we play convinced we can beat anyone. Settling for a result is no longer an option.

“He has a way of thinking and of seeing the sport that is different to everyone else. He is a genius, a master.”

Despite regularly selling off star names, Atalanta continue to churn out fresh talent with their scouting network and impressive youth academy.

There were offers in January for Papu Gomez, Duvan Zapata, Josip Ilicic and Gianluca Mancini, but Percassi was adamant.

“We wanted to keep all the big names and we did it. Proposals were not even taken into consideration. It was right not to mess with the team at this stage so we can aim for a great second half to the season.

“We also brought in Roger Ibanez from Fluminense. The lad is very impressive.”

Atalanta are only three points off that fourth Champions League spot, currently held by Milan.
