Official: Okwonkwo makes Impact

It is now official that Bologna have sent striker Orji Okwonkwo on loan to MLS club the Montreal Impact.

The young Nigerian had been in talks for weeks and the deal was finally agreed today.

He will complete the move after receiving his international transfer certificate, visa and passing a medical.

“I’m satisfied in welcoming another striker to the team,” declared Impact Coach Rémi Garde on the official club website.

“Orji Okwonkwo is a young player scouted by Bologna three years ago who will help reinforce the team offensively. He’s a strong and quick forward who has an interesting margin of progression. I would like to welcome him to the team.”

The 21-year-old scored three goals in 27 Serie A appearances for Bologna and spent six months on loan at Brescia in Serie B last season.

Both the Montreal Impact and Bologna are owned by Joey Saputo, so regularly exchange players.
