The 50-year-old joined the Giallorossi in 2017 with a strong reputation after his finds – among them Dani Alves, Ivan Rakitic and Seydou Keita – helped Sevilla win five Europa Leagues.

However his work in the transfer market came under mounting scrutiny at the Olimpico following a poor run of results, culminating first in the exit of Coach Eusebio Di Francesco.

He is now expected to join Arsenal as their sporting director, reuniting with his Sevilla Coach Unai Emery.

Roma old boy Claudio Ranieri, meanwhile, has arrived at the club’s training ground ahead of replacing Di Francesco on an interim basis.
