Nicolò Zaniolo made a “childhood dream come true” with his senior Italy debut, but admits he “must improve in every area.”
The 19-year-old Roma midfielder came off the bench in the final minutes of the 2-0 victory over Finland, which opened their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign.
“It’s a dream that I have had since childhood and this evening it came true,” Zaniolo told Rai Sport.
“Now I have to keep working day by day and not let it get to my head. I know that getting there is tough, but staying there is even tougher. Negativity can sneak up on you quickly and you need a solid head on your shoulders to deal with that.
“I must improve in every area, but most of all work on my weaker foot.”
Zaniolo has been moved around at Roma this season, as part of a trident attack, a trequartista or a midfielder.
“I can play in many roles, it’s all down to the Coach and I play where I’m told. My personal objective is now to win the next Italy game and get Roma qualified for the Champions League.”
