Cesare Prandelli was again critical of the referees after Genoa’s 1-1 draw with Napoli. “We just want to see consistency in decisions.”

The Grifone had Stefano Sturaro sent off within the opening half-hour for a studs-up tackle on Allan, which had been a yellow card before the VAR viewing.

“If you tell me that all tackles with studs up will be shown a straight red card, then I’ll accept that. The problem is we just want to see consistency in decisions,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“For example, on Wednesday there was a last man foul and we had both a penalty and a straight red against our defender. Today, Udinese and Empoli had a similar situation, but it was a penalty and a yellow card. So tell me what we’re supposed to do about that?

“We had chances to score even when it was 11 against 11. We certainly weren’t lacking in character and determination tonight, so it’s a very satisfying result, in the circumstances.

“These lads are working so hard and deserve more. Goran Pandev had a slightly new position and the results were impressive. Changing to a 3-5-2 overall brought a positive response from the lads.”

Genoa rediscovered some confidence after the 4-0 defeat to Inter, but now prepare for the Derby della Mole against arch rivals Sampdoria.

“It’s worth the whole season, people have been talking to me about it since the day I arrived. These are games everyone wants to participate in and we will be ready.”
