Genoa President Enrico Preziosi confirmed he won’t fire Coach Cesare Prandelli, but did take “ a long time to reflect” on his decision.

There were reports that the 1-0 home defeat to Torino would be the final straw for Prandelli, who only took over as their third Coach of the campaign in December 2018.

The Grifone have lost four of their last five games and hover just five points clear of the relegation zone.

“I took a long time to reflect, I spoke to the Coach and realised he is eager to make up for it,” President Preziosi told Il Secolo XIX newspaper.

“We have what it takes to secure safety. We were well set out against Torino and only lost because of a naïve error. There also should’ve been a penalty in our favour.

“Now we must keep our nerve. The Coach can’t wait to get back out there.”

It was rumoured Davide Ballardini – the tactician who started the season at Genoa and was fired on October 9 to make way for Ivan Juric – would be recalled.
