“I thought we had a good game and deserved to at least go two goals up in the first half, but instead we went into the break 1-0 down. When you keep wasting chances, you eventually pay for it,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“Defeat is always disappointing, but I am far angrier with the red cards, as we have a huge game coming up on Monday where our whole season is in the balance.

“You can lose at San Siro, but the reds were avoidable and the season doesn’t end here. We need everyone we can get.

“We did what we should’ve done and just weren’t determined enough in the final third, while Gianluigi Donnarumma also made some good saves.

“If I’d known Donnarumma would go on to keep making great saves against my teams, I might’ve reconsidered his debut all those years ago…” smiled the former Milan boss.

“On the plus side, we were fired up because we refused to go down without a fight and tried to bring home at least a point. Having said that, you cannot be rude to the referee and we’ve still got games to play.

“Our squad isn’t huge and we can’t just give players away like that. Knowing Blerim Dzemaili and the atmosphere tonight, he’d get booked too, so I preferred not to risk him off the bench.”
