Sampdoria boss Marco Giampaolo has announced that his future will be decided on Monday.

The Blucerchiati beat champions Juventus 2-0 on Sunday thanks to goals from Gianluca Caprari and Gregoire Defrel, which left them ninth in the Serie A table.

However, Giampaolo admitted his objectives were ‘a little different’ to those of his employers, amidst mounting speculation of a divorce.

“Beating Juve is always satisfying. We gave our fans something to shout about, and we put the icing on a good season,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

However, Giampaolo admitted his objectives were ‘a little different’ to those of his employers, amidst mounting speculation of a divorce.

“Beating Juve is always satisfying. We gave our fans something to shout about, and we put the icing on a good season,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“We tried to raise the bar today as we were motivated to beat Juve. We had a good season, but perhaps we got some key matches wrong. I’m proud of my players and I want to congratulate them for a good performance.

“Fabio Quagliarella has won the title of Capocannoniere [top goalscorer], and I probably should have managed his time on the pitch a little better as I played him almost every game, but I couldn’t take away his opportunity to score goals.

“I’ll meet the President tomorrow to talk about my future. I’ve already had a chat with sporting director Carlo Osti, but I still don’t know the likelihood of me staying here.

“We’ll have to see what happens tomorrow, there must be motivation on the club’s part to grow as a team.

“If we’re happy to stay as we are, there could be a sharp decline in our fortunes. I need to understand what direction we’re heading in.

“I’m calm, however. The club will tell me what it can and can’t do. It isn’t easy fighting for the top six or seven places.

“Our objectives are a little different. In a month’s time, the players will need to be motivated all over again.

“We must aim higher, though. Winning brings confidence, we have a squad of 24 players and they’ve all improved.

“We were able to win big games, but we lack consistency. Perhaps this is our level and the team gave everything it could.”
