Atalanta President Antonio Percassi released a statement earlier on Wednesday, confirming Gasperini would be staying to oversee his club’s first-ever Champions League adventure.

“I’d already made up my mind to stay, we just wanted to wait until the end of the season so we could enjoy what was a remarkable achievement,” the 61-year-old told the Dea’s official website.

“We had to lay the foundations for next year and the club assured me they wanted to keep improving, and that convinced me to stay.

“The best moment over my three years here was obviously at Mapei Stadium. Qualifying for the Champions League for the first time was a fantastic moment for not only me, the players, and the club, but for the entire city too.

“Our fans have been terrific, and their continued support gives me great joy. I am extremely happy to be here.

“There will be no time for a holiday this year, but luckily I like working and I’m focusing on next season already. This is a club that is constantly growing.”
