Kostas Manolas says he left Roma for Napoli because ‘ending Juventus’ dominance is possible’ with the Partenopei.

Manolas had been linked with top clubs in England and Spain but ultimately stayed in Serie A, signing for Napoli in a €36m deal, with Amadou Diawara heading the other way to Roma.

“II chose Napoli because they’re a team who are close to Juventus and can make a leap in quality,” the defender told Sky Sport Italia.

“The club are signing some good players because they want to win things. Ending Juve’s dominance is possible, but we must do our jobs.

“The team are strong. I want to do my best and help the team win some trophies.”

The 28-year-old was then asked about Daniele De Rossi’s impending switch to Boca Juniors.

“He’s a captain on and off the field. He gave me a lot and I love him. He’s always given me advice, he’s an excellent professional. It’s a shame that he’ll no longer be in Italian football.

“I wish him all the best. I’m sure he’ll do well, he’s a true champion and he deserves this chance.”
