William Bianda made his first start of the season and limped off before half-time, but Rieti gave a good early account of themselves and were only beaten by Zaniolo’s tap-in after a ricochet in the six-yard box.

The Giallorossi stepped up several gears in the second half, as Leonardo Spinazzola’s pull-back forced Rieti into an own goal, then Davide Santon drilled in from another Spinazzola move down the left.

Cengiz Under came off the bench and immediately scored with a left-foot curler into the far top corner.

Alessandro Florenzi was there to redirect a wayward Amadou Diawara strike, then Schick took centre-stage with a late brace, including his delicate lob.
