Bologna comeback sinks Schalke

Bologna fought back from a goal down to beat Schalke 04 in a 3-2 friendly thriller, including Nicola Sansone and Rodrigo Palacio goals.

The Rossoblu continued their pre-season preparations without Coach Sinisa Mihajlovic, who is in hospital following chemotherapy for leukaemia, but he watched the game on a livestream.

He will have been impressed with the performance and result, as Bundesliga side Schalke 04 had taken the lead through Fabian Reese’s tap-in at the back post, Lukasz Skorupski’s save preventing a second from the forward.

After Palacio struck the woodwork, Andrea Poli drew level with a deflected strike from outside the box.

Sansone’s left-foot finish from a tricky angle turned the game around by half-time.

Andreas Skov Olsen made his debut off the bench and Palacio made it 3-1, springing the offside trap on a Ladislav Krejci pull-back to beat the goalkeeper from close range.

Nassim Boujellab pulled one back for Schalke in the final minutes, getting his head to a corner, but Jonas Carls suffered suspected ligament damage during the game.
