Marco Giampaolo is not concerned after Milan’s 0-0 draw with Serie C side Cesena. “I always said it’d take time, I am not looking for short-cuts.”
The Rossoneri had practically the same line-up as last season in their final friendly of the summer.
“Clearly we can’t be very sharp right now, but we took that into account,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.
“The game will give us indications to understand how we can improve and work better. We are particularly dependent on narrow margins that keep the balance and those are important above all for those who haven’t had many training sessions.
“After all, I had one session with Rafael Leao, none with Ismael Bennacer, Leo Duarte had three. There are players who have quality, but don’t know what’s happening in the collective thought process because they arrived late, like Lucas Paqueta and Franck Kessie.
“When I said it’d take time, I meant it, because I knew it would be like this and I am not looking for short-cuts. If we want to play positive football in the opposition half, then we need to maintain it with a delicate balance.
“It’s just a matter of time and working together, as so far I’ve only done that with a handful of players.”
Giampaolo also had an intriguing explanation for Krzysztof Piatek’s pre-season struggles.
“The tests show he feels pain and fatigue a lot more than the others, so naturally he takes longer to shake off the strain of pre-season training regimes.”
