Valencia and Italy are sweating over the fitness of Cristiano Piccini after he took a nasty blow to the knee in training.

AS reports Piccini took a ‘severe’ knock to his knee on Wednesday morning and had to be escorted to hospital in an ambulance with Valencia’s team doctor.

The newspaper also notes how the right-back had impressed in Los Che’s last match against Celta Vigo and was an apparent shoe-in for their next game.

The 26-year-old will now undergo tests to determine the extent of the damage.

Piccini moved to Valencia from Sporting CP last summer and made 37 appearances in his first season, helping his side qualify for the Champions League and win the Copa del Rey.

He also has three Italy caps and had been under consideration for Roberto Mancini ahead of next month’s Euro 2020 qualifiers.
