“We carefully analysed the defeat to Atalanta with the players, pointed out what didn’t work well and what we need to improve,” said the Coach in his Press conference days after the 2-0 home loss.

“The second goal conceded was the subject of particular analysis, because that was a lack of concentration from everybody. It is unacceptable to let in a goal like that, as it was still 1-0 and we had time to score an equaliser. It was a mistake from all the players.

“I will probably make some changes, as the fixture list is packed at the moment and there are some players who are more tired than others. I have to take that into account.

“We are not satisfied with the number of goals we have conceded, so we are working on that. The tendency is to blame the defenders, but it’s an issue that regards the entire team. Roma score a lot of goals, so we need to find the balance that will prove fundamental.

“Atalanta were very aggressive in their pressing and we struggled to deal with that, but again, it was not a physical issue. The problem was also not a tactical one moving to three at the back, as at times there is too much importance put on to the system. If I consider it opportune, I will use the three-man defence again in future.

“I do not intend to reveal tomorrow’s line-up, but there will be changes in every sector: defence, midfield and attack.”

Lorenzo Pellegrini is struggling with plantar fasciitis, while Leonardo Spinazzola aggravated a previous injury, but Fonseca assured they are both “in good condition.

“Henrikh Mkhitaryan is doing well too. I didn’t play him against Atalanta because I imagined that the conditions of the match would not favour his characteristics.”
