Ranieri ended last season back at Roma, and the 67-year-old was asked about his former club, as well as Inter, Juventus and Napoli – all of whom he can also count as previous employers.

“The season’s going as I expected. Juventus will always be up there. Then there are teams like Inter who are also ahead,” he told Radio Anch’io Sport.

Atalanta have confirmed themselves and there’s also Napoli, despite their defeat to Cagliari. I hope Napoli get back on track to put themselves back into the title race.

“Fonseca’s doing a good job. It seems to me that his philosophy is coming out. It also seems to me that the players are happy.

“My exit was agreed beforehand. When I signed on, I knew I’d leave at the end of the season. Certainly it was a bad ending for Daniele [De Rossi] and Francesco [Totti].”

The Coach famously led Leicester to the Premier League title in 2016 and the Foxes look revitalised under Brendan Rodgers, while Allegri is being heavily linked with a similar move.

“I hope they compete for the Champions League. Massimiliano would have no problems understanding the mentality of English football.

An experience abroad opens up new ideas and horizons.”
