Napoli have signed the five-year contract – with an option to extend for another five years – to use the Stadio San Paolo after months of negotiations.

As with most sporting venues in Italy, the stadium is owned by the local council and rented by the club for match days.

“SSC Napoli and the Municipality of Naples signed a five-year agreement for the use of the Stadio San Paolo on Thursday,” read a statement.

“The agreement – which includes an option to extend for another five-year period – was signed by SSC Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis and the head of the Municipality’s Large Sports Facilities department Gerarda Vaccaro, in the presence of Mayor of Naples Luigi De Magistris, Municipal General Secretary Patrizia Magnoni and Municipal Director General Attilio Auricchio.

“Also present for SSC Napoli were vice-president Edoardo De Laurentiis, CEO Andrea Chiavelli and head of operations, sales and marketing Alessandro Formisano.

“Both the Municipality and SSC Napoli expressed their satisfaction at reaching a deal and stressed the importance of the extensive work done in recent years to achieve the agreement.”

The Stadio San Paolo has undergone extensive renovation work in recent months, funded largely by them hosting the Universiadi athletics competition over the summer, with new seats, blue athletics track, videoscreens and floodlights.

Now that this agreement has been signed, they can also begin to discuss a Napoli club museum and more structural improvements.
