The Neroverdi have endured a mixed start to the season, and have only won one of their last five games in Serie A.

"The league position is bad, but we are a young team and they're changing the situation. We need to have certainties that arrive from playing our game," said the coach in his press conference.

De Zerbi was complimentary about opponents Lecce, noting that despite their position in the Serie A table, they have a clear identity.

"Lecce is a courageous squad that has always played good football, and despite some defeats, they drew with Juventus, and they have a clear identity that started from Serie C to A."

Sassuolo took the lead against Fiorentina in midweek before conceeding two goals in the second half, but De Zerbi liked what he saw from his side in the opening 45 minutes.

"We have to play the way we did in the first half against Fiorentina, we were brilliant."

De Zerbi revealed that striker Francesco Caputo is out through injury, but Gregoire Defrel will play from the start.

"Caputo isn't part of the squad, he tried to grit his teeth to play, but he couldn't make it, so we left him at home. Defrel will play. Magnanelli will be on the bench, but probably won't play."
