Former Napoli star Ezequiel Lavezzi says he has not retired yet but admits “it’s a decision I’ve almost taken.”

It had been reported earlier that Lavezzi’s appearance during Hebei China Fortune’s 3-1 defeat to Guangzhou Evergrande would be his last in football.

The 34-year-old has since broken his silence and all-but-confirmed he would be hanging up his boots, with his Hebei contract expiring next month.

“It could because this could be the last game of my career,” he replied when asked after the game if he would remember the goal he scored against Evergrande.

“If so, I’ll surely remember it. As for whether I’ll retire, I think so. I really want to enjoy having my children and family around, so I think it’s the right time.

“During the [Christmas] holidays I’ll think about it a bit more, but it’s a decision I’ve almost taken.”
