Antonio Candreva said Inter “showed character” against Slavia Prague and “passed a big test” keeping them in the hunt for a place in the last 16 of the Champions League.

After the 3-1 victory in Prague, Inter’s fate is now in their own hands and Candreva was satisfied with how they hit back as VAR awarded the home side a penalty, ruling out Romelu Lukaku’s goal to hand Prague their chance to equalise.

After going from 2-0 up to 1-1 in the space of two minutes, Candreva was proud to see Inter respond and deserve the three points.

“We’ve passed a big test and take these three points, on a pitch where many teams have struggled,” Candreva told Inter TV. “We showed our character in the first half, then in the second half we deserved to win the game.

“We knew we had to suffer, and we did well to stay in the game after 1-1. It was an incident that could have hurt us, but we deserved the win in the end.”

Now their place in the last 16 depends on a meeting with Barcelona in the last round and a win there should see them through, as they have a superior head-to-head record against third-placed Borussia Dortmund.

But Candreva is focused on keeping up with Juventus in Serie A, where they welcome SPAL at San Siro on Sunday.

“We are all happy. Now we must recharge. Tomorrow we will think about the League and then we can start to think about Barcelona.”
