Giorgio Chiellini says he “expected” Antonio Conte’s Inter to challenge Juventus, who will only reveal their true selves “from January”.

Juventus are second in Serie A, one point behind Inter who have been rejuvenated by Old Lady old boy Conte, but Chiellini insists he is not surprised.

“Inter don’t surprise me,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“I know Conte and his players, I expected it to be like this for a long time to come.”

Maurizio Sarri has been criticised for failing to sufficiently revamp the Bianconeri’s style of play so far, so when will they click into gear under the former Napoli boss?

“We have to grow. But I had already said it after the first game; the new Juve will show themselves from January.

“We started well, for the first month and a half, and it culminated with the game against Inter. That was our best peformance of the season so far.

“Then, we suffered a physiological decline, but we had budgeted for it. The results, however, haven’t been lacking, even if we haven’t been convincing ourselves either.

“It’s important to get them [the points], despite not playing well. We are aware that we must work hard to become an automated squad like a Sarri one.”

Juventus travel to Lazio in Serie A this weekend, whereas Inter host Roma on Friday.
