England boss Gareth Southgate was in the stands during Roma’s match with Inter at San Siro last night to watch Chris Smalling.
The Daily Mirror reports that Southgate, along with assistant Steve Holland, are assessing their defensive options ahead of Euro 2020 and wanted to see the on-loan Manchester United defender in action.
Smalling hasn’t played for The Three Lions since June 2017, but has been impressive since joining the Giallorossi on a season-long loan.
The 30-year-old shackled Romelu Lukaku in a 0-0 draw that kept Roma in the top four.
Smalling has played 14 times for Roma in all competitions, and has scored twice.
He's won 31 caps for England, and scored once.
