Kostas Manolas believes the win against Racing Genk could kickstart Napoli’s season as they "deserved" to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League.

With mission now accomplished in Europe, Manolas feels the 4-0 victory can “generate some excitement” for when his team try to turn things around in Serie A.

“It’s a win that can generate some excitement,” the defender told Napoli’s official website.

“Qualifying was a target that we wanted to achieve, and we’ve shown that we’ve deserved it over the last few months.

“Unfortunately, it hasn’t been going that well in the League and we’re disappointed about that."

Carlo Ancelotti was sacked straight after the game for failing to improve the Partenopei’s fortunes in the League, where they sit just seventh.

Despite that, the Greece international is adamant there is still much for his side to play for in 2019-20.

“There’s still a long way to go this season. This achievement on the European stage can put a smile back on our faces and reassure us for the future.

“So much is in our hands and we’re ready to fight, to show we’re a strong and united squad without any internal friction.

“Now we need to keep doing more of the same. It’s not about talking, but we need to give our all on the pitch to improve our form in the League.”

They will look to end a two-month winless run in Serie A this weekend, when they welcome Parma to the San Paolo.
