Adriano Galliani confirms an approach was made for Silvio Berlusconi’s Serie C side Monza to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic. “I proposed a two-and-a-half-year contract.”
It had been assumed Berlusconi was joking when he said “I hope he comes to Monza” rather than return to their old club Milan.
Instead, the former Rossoneri CEO and current chief at Monza reveals it was all true.
“After President Berlusconi gave me the mandate to do so, I advanced a proposal to Mino Raiola,” Galliani told the Corriere della Sera newspaper.
“Ibra’s agent suggested I speak directly to Zlatan. So I proposed a two-and-a-half-year contract. I told him: ‘Come to us, you can stay six months in Serie C, then next season we are in Serie B and in two years we’ll be in Serie A.’”
However, Ibrahimovic has far more lucrative and interesting offers from the likes of Milan, Roma, Napoli and Bologna.
The Swedish veteran is a free agent following the end of his contract with the LA Galaxy.
