Castrovilli: 'Dreams do come true'

Fiorentina midfielder Gaetano Castrovilli wants to repay Vincenzo Montella for launching his Serie A career. “Sometimes dreams really do come true.”

“The way to beat Inter is with belief and hunger. It won’t be easy, because Antonio Conte has given them such determination and they have a great striker like Lautaro Martinez,” Castrovilli told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I bet on Federico Chiesa being decisive this evening, because he really is an extraordinary player. He is someone who can win games by himself.”

Castrovilli has extra motivation to win this, as it will feel a little like a Derby della Madonnina.

“I supported Milan as a child, so my heroes growing up were Ronaldinho and Kaka. I realise that I need to score and provide more assists, to be more decisive in the final third for Fiorentina.”

It’s reported this could be the final game for coach Vincenzo Montella, who is on the verge of dismissal after four straight Serie A defeats.

“We all go through difficult periods and I will give my all to help him, because I know that if I am in this fairy-tale, it’s thanks to Montella. He gave me my Serie A debut.

“Now I have made my first appearance in the Italy jersey. The day I received the call-up, I thought back to celebrating in the streets as Italy won the 2006 World Cup. At times, dreams really do come true.

“It still feels strange having someone recognise me in the street, so I apologise if I don’t always react when people shout my name, but I assume they’re not talking to me!

“The first thing I bought with the salary from my new contract was a house for my parents, it was a surprise gift for them.”

You might run into Castrovilli by accident on the videogame Fortnite, but he is easily recognisable.

“My avatar is of a zombie dressed as a football player with the Number 8 jersey.”
