Napoli have reportedly offered Mertens a two-year deal at €3m a season, a proposal he doesn’t find acceptable.

La Gazzetta dello Sport claim the main sticking point is the signing-on bonus.

Mertens would like a three-year deal at €4m a campaign in wages, something the club is refusing to contemplate.

Il Mattino state if the striker doesn’t revise his standing, he can leave in the January transfer window.

The striker has a €10m release clause, but it is only eligible for overseas clubs.

Mertens has been at the San Paolo since 2013, and has scored 118 goals in all competitions for the Partenopei.

He will turn 33 in May.
