Atalanta are understood to be interested in bringing back Milan defender Mattia Caldara this month.

Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira states La Dea are seeking to reinforce their backline, given Simon Kjaer is ready to leave.

Caldara played two full seasons for Atalanta before joining Juventus in January 2017, with a view to becoming a first-team member 18 months later.

However, he never got to play for the Bianconeri as he was inserted into the deal that saw Leonardo Bonucci return to Turin that same summer.

The 25-year-old has since endured a torrid time at Milan, suffering two serious injuries that have limited him to just two appearances in all competitions.

Despite that, he has begun turning out for the Diavolo’s Primavera side and Schira expects Atalanta to make their move once Kjaer’s exit is confirmed.
