Salvatore Sirigu has admitted the negative atmosphere affects the “lonely” Torino players and has claimed “we’re trying to do our best everyday”.
The shot stopper became the hero when 10-men Torino went advanced to the last eight of the Coppa Italia on penalties against Genoa.
“It was one of the few games where the true Toro spirit shone through,” he told Torino Channel. “Winning in certain contexts is important, we are up against difficult objectives and manage to react even when we are put in difficulty.
He admitted that the “unpleasant environment” makes life “lonely” for the Granata players.
“An unpleasant environment has been created, and I am very disappointed,” he added. “Even if you don’t see it from the outside, we are trying our best every day.
“We face the critics with our heads held high, but sometimes it hurts me. We also feel a bit lonely, and I am bitter about it. We went through in the cup, and it’s important that I repeat it.”
