Roma have reportedly offered €3m for Elche midfielder Gonzalo Villar, but must also negotiate with co-owners Valencia.

Giallorossi director of sport Gianluca Petrachi confirmed last night that they were working on a new signing.

“It’s possible we will bring in a young player who can after working with him for a few months become the midfielder of the future. It’s not easy, as he is at another club right now, but we’ve been watching him for a while.

“I do have someone in mind, but I won’t name names, or the price will shoot up!”

According to Spanish newspaper AS, that player is 21-year-old Gonzalo Villar, who has made 20 appearances for Elche this season.

Valencia still own 80 per cent of his contract and have an option to buy if they match the offer from another club.
