Joao Pedro explained his penalty miss, goal celebration and why he believes “Cagliari are back” despite a 2-2 draw with Parma.

The Sardinians are still without a win in eight rounds and were leading 2-1 this evening until a 94th-minute Andreas Cornelius equaliser.

“It’s disappointing. We have to learn, we keep creating chances and playing good football, but always get something wrong and pay for it,” the forward told Sky Sport Italia.

Joao Pedro had the opportunity to complete a brace, but fired his penalty off target.

“I wanted to take a quick run-up, as I’ve had a couple of penalties saved recently, so I wanted to confuse them a little bit, change things up, but it went wrong.

“This is going to be a long night. I worked hard to experience this moment, and despite the result not being what we wanted, I think the team is back and we just need to whittle down those errors.”

After the goal, Joao Pedro celebrated by miming a basketball throw and gesturing the numbers 24.

“Kobe Bryant was not just an idol for basketball fans, but all of sport. It’s a tough blow to lose an icon like that, someone who wanted to win and play so much. I wanted in my own humble way to send him a tribute.

“It’s a real loss for the world of sport.”
