Luciano Spalletti has claimed it has been a “complicated” season for him, as he is still tied to Inter after being replaced by Antonio Conte last summer.

The former Roma coach moved to the Giuseppe Meazza in June 2017 but only lasted for two seasons with the Nerazzurri.

Spalletti has revealed that he is looking for “another challenge” and said he didn’t want to quit the job.

“It has been a particularly intense year, a season somewhat complicated,” he told Tuttomercatoweb. “If it was up to me, I would never have stopped.

“It’s easy to talk about my future: I need another challenge like I had the previous years. I came from Zenit, then Rome and then Inter, where we had to roll up our sleeves and emerge from a complicated situation.”

Spalletti has praised Gennaro Gattuso and said Napoli “made a good decision” in bringing the former Milan coach to the San Paolo.

He denies they were in touch with him about succeeding Carlo Ancelotti, but admitted that he had heard from Milan, but had to stay at home as he is tied to his contract with the Nerazzurri.

“I think Napoli made a good decision,” he added. “Gattuso is young, an emerging coach who is fixing things. I haven’t been contacted by Napoli.

“I have been contacted by Milan, but as you know, I was sacked,” he said. “They [Inter] decided to pay me to stay at home and I have stayed at home.

“There was some reasoning and it ended up being like this.”
