Parma’s director of sport Daniele Faggiano confirms the club thought about a move for former Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek in the January transfer window, but “he was out of our price range.”

Piatek left Milan after months of speculation that he was surplus to requirements following the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Pole joined Bundesliga outfit Hertha Berlin for €27m plus bonuses, but Faggiano says the Gialloblu did enquire about signing Piatek.

“It wasn’t easy to sign a striker in January, none of the forwards we contacted moved in January except Piatek, who we thought about,” Faggiano said at a press conference.

“I would’ve been the first to sign him, but he was out of our budget, and we have to look after the balance sheet first and foremost.”

Gervinho was due to leave the club for Qatari side Al Sadd, but it was rumoured the deal wasn’t completed in time, which Faggiano denies.

“He wasn’t convinced about leaving immediately. If he had wanted to sign he could’ve done it straight away.

“Everything was on time but the lad wasn’t convinced on the move. We are working to limit the damage as much as possible for everyone, to him, to us and to them [Al Sadd].”
