Fiorentina boss Beppe Iachini says his side “had a great game” against Sampdoria, and that he had words with striker Dusan Vlahovic after his controversial celebration.
The Viola had been in a bad run of form lately, but cruised to an impressive 5-1 victory against Sampdoria.
Iachini’s side had suffered defeats to Juventus and Atalanta in recent weeks, and the coach says his men gave the best response.
“I asked the lads to continue doing their jobs, we’ve been together for 40 days and it can’t all be perfect,” said Iachini in his post-game press conference.
“We are continuing our growth process, the team gives very little away. The lads had a great game and it wasn’t easy against Samp, but we played the game as we had prepared for it.
“I am happy for our fans and at the same time I want to thank the Sampdoria fans who are in my heart for what we lived through together.”
Alfred Duncan made his Viola debut following his €15m move from Sassuolo, so how did Iachini feel the midfielder performed?
“He’s a boy I know, I knew what he can give us.
“He has the right skill and he knows how to shoot. He started the game but this shouldn’t be seen as a rejection for Marco Benassi or Erick Pulgar.”
Vlahovic caused some controversy when he celebrated his second goal by standing in front of the Sampdoria ultras, however the striker has since issued an apology.
“Do I have to say what I said to him? Better not. Afterwards however he apologised to the home fans.
“I said to him that if he did it on purpose, he was an idiot.”
Iachini then stated that he is working on improving Vlahovic, as he done with previous strikers under his watch.
“He must improve on some aspects, we are working with him like I done with Mauro Icardi and Paulo Dybala when I had them.”
