“I still follow Serie A,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “This year it’s very interesting with Juventus, Inter and a team like Lazio that are doing very well.

“I would like the Biancocelesti to win.”

The defender spoke to the reporters after Atletico Madrid beat Liverpool 1-0 at the Wanda Metropolitano in their first leg of the Champions League tie last night.

Savic was satisfied with the way his team had kept the reigning European champions at bay and thanked the fans in the Spanish captil.

“I think we had a great game tactically. We managed to win, and we are very happy,” he said. “It’s not easy to beat this Liverpool. But it’s only the first 90 minutes.

“Our fans are the best in Europe. You have seen how incredible they were throughout the whole game. With them, we can achieve great things.”
