“All of my family support Sinisa at this time, my son adores him. I have a great rapport with him, we have spent a lot of time together,” Kolarov told the broadcaster.

“I had just signed for Lazio, I was at home when I got a call from a private number. ‘Aleksandar, I’m Sinisa,’ I thought it was a joke from a friend of mine, but then I recognised the voice and I couldn’t believe it.

“He said: ‘If you need something call me without any problems’. I was shocked, I had never heard from him before that phone call.”

Mihaljovic is in the on going process of battling against leukaemia, and Kolarov states that he believes the former Lazio and Inter left-back will win the fight.

“I saw Sinisa at a press conference, I thought he wanted to announce something about his contract. I immediately called one of his assistants who explained the situation to me. Leukaemia. I couldn’t believe it. I was in shock.

“I always thought that Mihajlovic was invincible, who could face a hundred men and beat them all at the same time.

“But he has charisma, he is a warrior and he will win this battle too.”
