Udinese have announced they will refund season tickets for games played behind closed doors, but “the season should’ve been suspended much earlier” due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

The league resumes tomorrow with the rescheduled Week 26 matches and all sporting events will be behind closed doors until at least April 3.

Clubs are not legally obliged to refund tickets for games that are affected by ‘force majeure’, but some are doing so anyway, and the latest to take that step are Udinese.

Clubs are not legally obliged to refund tickets for games that are affected by ‘force majeure’, but some are doing so anyway, and the latest to take that step are Udinese.

They announced that any season ticket holder who asks for a refund covering the games that are behind closed doors will receive their money back.

“It’s counter-productive to play behind closed doors in my view, seeing as football is made for those who are passionate about it,” Udinese patron Giampaolo Pozzo told Il Gazzettino di Friuli newspaper.

“It’s like having the opening performance of Aida at the Scala theatre in Milan without any spectators. It’d be paradoxical. In my view, the season should’ve been suspended much earlier while we awaited concrete developments on the spread of the virus.”
