“The lads did well, considering it was behind closed doors and the quality of the opposition,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“It’s a pity, as we had some good chances and Juan Musso made a fine save in stoppages. I liked the attitude, we go forward with young players and can improve.”

Last week, Fiorentina had been in Udine and on their way to the stadium when news came through the game had been postponed.

“The last week has been difficult, because we ended up talking about everything except football. There was even uncertainty today as to whether we’d go ahead, so I hope that we can at least find some sort of certainty going forward.

“We train, wanted to win today and especially because Udinese-Fiorentina is always going to be a special fixture.”

Fiorentina captain Davide Astori died in an Udine hotel two years ago this month, just hours before the game was due to kick off.

He was suffering from an undiagnosed heart condition.
