Rafael Leao says he “didn’t believe it” when Milan called the forward about joining the club last summer.
Leao joined the Rossoneri from French side Lille last summer in a deal reportedly worth €28m.
Talking to Italian football magazine Calcio 2000, Leao recalled the moment he found out there was interest from Milan.
“I honestly didn’t believe it at first. But when I spoke to Paolo Maldini, a Milan legend, who won so many titles, I was very happy,” Leao told the magazine.

“I honestly didn’t believe it at first. But when I spoke to Paolo Maldini, a Milan legend, who won so many titles, I was very happy,” Leao told the magazine.
“It was incredible to have received the call from Milan. It’s a moment that I will never forget.
“How am I finding things? I’m doing very well, and I’m happy to be part of this team and to be able to play in these colours.
“I am happy and grateful to Milan for betting on me."
Leao has made 21 appearances in Serie A this season, scoring twice and providing a single assist.
