The 48-year-old played 406 games for the Rossoneri during his career as a player and the former defensive midfielder is frustrated to see his former side struggle to get a foothold with all their attempts of change at San Siro.

“They need stability, they need a project that can be completed,” Albertini told Tuttosport. “It’s always difficult to change every year.

“It takes stability and knowing how to accept criticism because when you start something new, it is never short-term.

“Managing the critics is critical for a big club. If you believe in the project, you have to manage the difficult moments, when the results don’t arrive.

“If you start from scratch every year because you think you’ve made a mistake, everything becomes more difficult.”

The former Italy international points at their local rivals Inter and what the Nerazzurri have built due to a strong foundation.

“Let’s look at Inter. They started with a project and may have made some mistakes, but they go deep,” he said. “This year, they will arrive in the Champions League, next year, they will still improve to win based on what they have built this season.

“If you change all the time, it will be difficult to do that. At Milan they are trying everything. First, they change the coach after seven days, then [Zvonimir] Boban left.”
