Robinson was all set to join Milan in January until an irregular heartbeat was detected in his medical, and the move fell through.

Now, The Sun is reporting the 22-year-old faces ‘a lengthy wait’ to resume his career as the medical crisis in England has pushed his surgery back.

The newspaper writes Wigan were ‘optimistic’ about him playing again this season if the campaign was extended, given recovery times range from six to eight weeks.

Despite that, the Rossoneri would have kept their offer of a three-year contract worth €2.8m a season on the table, in the event Robinson does regain full fitness.

Paolo Maldini is said to have ‘stayed in touch’ with the United States international, who in turn ‘hopes to come back as good as new to complete the transfer’.
