FIFA have released a video featuring players past and present, including Gigi Buffon, Fabio Cannavaro, Diego Maradona, Kaka and Marco van Basten to applaud healthcare workers.

A tradition has sprung up around the globe, first started in Italy during the coronavirus lockdown, of applauding from balconies and front doors at a certain hour in a show of thanks towards healthcare professionals working in this pandemic.

Now FIFA have made a video of their own applause from 50 players of the past and present, including former Milan midfielder David Beckham.

Now FIFA have made a video of their own applause from 50 players of the past and present, including former Milan midfielder David Beckham.

“As footballers, we are used to receiving applause, but this time, we have the opportunity to show our appreciation for the many people who are risking their lives to protect ours,” said Beckham on the FIFA website.

“You are humanity’s heroes and we want to show that all of football supports you and everything that you do to defend all of us.”
