Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte is set to announce a move into Phase Two of the pandemic response this evening, as the peak has been left behind, with measures eased from May 4.

There were 919 deaths on March 27, the worst day of the crisis, but they’ve been steadily dropping throughout April and today only 260 were registered.

That’s approximately half the 534 deaths from April 21, significantly lower than yesterday’s 415 and the lowest figure since 175 on March 14.

The statistics have in particular plummeted in Lombardy, where there were only 56 deaths registered over the last 24 hours.

There are also reassuring statements coming in from the hospitals, where 2,009 are in intensive care (-93) and 21,372 in hospital (-161).

Another 1,808 people were given the all-clear since yesterday, so while 26,644 have died, there are 64,928 who made a full recovery.

There are currently also 82,722 people at home in self-isolation with only minor symptoms.
