Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini had such heated rows with Genoa director Stefano Capozucca that the tactician ‘upended my office desk.’

Although both men have since left the club, Capozucca revealed the details during a conversation with PianetaGenoa1893.net.

“I love him like a brother, even if in the past we had such ferocious arguments that we came to blows,” confessed the former director of sport.

“The biggest clash was when we were eliminated from the Coppa Italia by Catania. (President Enrico) Preziosi was angry and said he hadn’t picked the best line-up to secure qualification.

“Gasperini was so furious at being told this that he upended my office desk with me behind it.”

However, Gasp will always be a Genoa hero, having two different spells at Marassi in 2006-10 and 2013-16.

“He would take away the team’s fear of defeat in any arena, even if it was in Milan or Turin. Nowadays, Genoa go into away games just hoping to concede as few goals as possible.

“His Genoa was appreciated everywhere because they played such good football at remarkable intensity.”

Gasperini is now the coach of Atalanta, taking them to the Champions League quarter-finals.
