Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini has praised the 'impressive' Inter loanee Mauro Icardi in his autobiography: “Imagine him playing with Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez.”

The Nerazzurri attacker has spent the current season on loan at Paris Saint-Germain and has continued to deliver the goods in the French capital, scoring 20 times in 31 games.

The 27-year-old left San Siro after finding the net 124 times in 219 games, including eight times in 12 meetings with the Bianconeri, and the Old Lady captain has claimed it helped his side when the ‘impressive’ Argentine moved on.

“Among the great opponents I have faced, I highly respect Icardi, who inside the area is always on target,” Chiellini said, according to SOS Fanta. “I would define him as impressive. Mauro often scored against Juventus, this hurt me.

“But I’m convinced he’s a good boy. Something must have happened at Inter, I say it as an older brother.

“Maybe he forced his hand a bit too much, but from a sporting point of view, I wonder how a champion like him didn’t remain a Nerazzurri for 15 years, scoring another 200 goals.

“Then, as a Juventus player, I would say that it luckily didn’t happen. But can you imagine Icardi together with Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez?

“And if two people like Beppe Marotta and Antonio Conte decided to go on without Icardi, they would have had their reasons.

“It was probably the right decision, but Maurito is a number nine that shifts the balance.”
